Davy Crockett’s famous quote originates from his time as a Tennessee Congressman where he promised his constituents that if they did not reelect him, You may go to hell, and I will go to Texas. In February 1836, after traveling through East Texas, Crockett arrived in San Antonio just as the siege of the Alamo was getting underway. He was quick to join forces with the defenders under William B. Travis and Jim Bowie, and his courage during the battle became the stuff of legend.
